about

Pitched somewhere between a critique and a celebration of the hordes of people who in recent and not so recent times have made the move down from London in search of a better life, “DFL” puts a bit of music to a now infamous article by Guardian journalist Laura Barton in which she outlined her reasons for leaving the Death Star of Thanet (Margate) behind in exchange for a return to London. Stylistically, the track borrows shamelessly from a number of 80s acts, but particularly benefits from a Peter Hook-style bassline delivered by fellow cynic and Margate resident Mr Stewart CRABS.

Inspired by the celebrations brought about by the opening up of society post Covid, “Freedom Day ‘21” documents what for many might be a typical weekend in a seaside town such as Margate. Not content with his own vocals – heavily processed and sounding dangerously similar those of AQUA vocalist René Dif – MSOM drafted in Croydon-based, up-and-coming phenomenon Bubs Assman for a spot of skunk-infused MCing fitting perfectly with the subject matter of the song.
