Chocolope Records Amazing production and writing from the elusive TS, some super impressive stuff in this one and I go back to it regularly Favorite track: Starling.
Josh Vardey
Josh Vardey thumbnail
Josh Vardey Sam's latest Two Silhouettes unfurls its jagged leaves into beaty bangers (Ooba Dooba) and urban prowlers (206), while at the other end teasing soft roots into warm soil (Catfish) and basking in the fragile beauty of Hearts and Lungs. The breadth of styles, moods and spaces served up here could easily have been spread over several releases, but there’s a message behind this twin shadow generosity: Just keep growing out and your searching sprouts will continue to bear tasty fruit. Not tice. Favorite track: Buzzards.

Me and my shadow... [repeat] Hypnotic... [repeat] I wanna groove. [repeat] I wanna feel 'em all. I wanna... Heart rates fluctuate. Sound waves vibrate. Heart rates accelerate. Sound waves resonate. 808 kicks out the speaker cones, I wanna feel ‘em all, I wanna feel ‘em all. 206 bones in my skeleton, I wanna shake ‘em all, I wanna shake ‘em all. 126 beats per minute, every minute, I wanna feel ‘em all, I wanna feel ‘em all. 4/4, with a swing on the triplets. I wanna find the moves, to occupy that groove. Groove. Tempo. [repeat] Get on my frequency, get on my tempo. [repeat] I wanna... [repeat]

Full House 04:19
He’s got a full house, people… he’s got a full house. [repeat] I levitate in a coven, oblivion with brethren, and it renews me, and I quicken. When we come together, there’s - electricity. I’d like to live deliciously. These are my people, this is my scene. The walls are burning, and - I’m so serene.
4.
Jaded 05:02
Don’t be so jaded. I know you’re aching. Don’t you hide. Go outside. Don’t be so jaded. I know you’re aching. Don’t you hide. Go outside. Do you miss me, like I miss you? You’re like a brother, it don’t feel like home without you. Do you miss me, like I miss you? You’re like a sister, it don’t feel like home without you. [repeat]

Juggernaut 03:01
Once you start, you just can’t stop. You rule my world, my juggernaut. Can’t forget what you do to me. I think about you all the time. The slowest hari kari, the lowest nadir for me. Crush my bones, tenderly. Overwhelm me gently. I sleepwalk, leave the house, go running on railway lines, hypnotised by angler fish. My Olive, my can of spinach. Glaze over, flip a switch. Doppelganger, evil twin. Superhero, alter ego, mask and cape, eye shadow. Enough to kill an elephant. I’m reborn, every time. I respawn, rejuvenate, good as new, nine lives. Just always felt the night was young. Just always felt the night was young. Just always felt the night was young. Just always felt the night was young. You make me feel so alive. You make grey look black or white. You make me quicken. You make me quicken.

Catfish 02:12
You know it in your gut, I’m a catfish, who just needs the practice, imposter syndromer, interloper, avatar, misnomer. A fetish for cosplay, lying at the bar it’s my birthday. When you see they ain’t got the eyes quite right, and it dun’t tally, the uncanny valley. Shaking my tail feathers, not a peacock, i’m a crow forever. A cuckoo egg in the nest, doin’ my best to murder all the fucking rest. Cowboy, hustler, Dom Draper, snake oil, tiger made of paper. I can turn invisible... when no one in the room is watching. Despite all my camouflage, I still have to gatecrash. A black sheep with no flock. A black swan with no flight. Fake it ‘til I never really make it, fake it ‘til I’ve butterflies, ‘til the wool over my eyes feels nice, fake it ‘til my fancy dress angel wings fly. (fake it ‘til my fancy dress angel wings fly.) Fake it ‘til I never really make it [x4] (I'm Milli Vanilli, I'm Milli Vanilli...)

Starling 04:06
We’re iridescent. We move at sundown. We congregate on wires. We move in unison. We form a sphere. We form a black cloud. We synchronise. We synergize. We mimic other things, perform our repertoire. We like to sample sounds from our surroundings. We emulate, and imitate. We migrate, and we invade.

Did you feel the earthquake? Did you think it was the J? Are you seeing ghosts again? Are you on the same wavelength? Why are your windows covered up? Why has the cat got your tongue? We share half our DNA, are we wired up the same? I can’t imagine how much being alive is killing you, and I don’t blame you at all, I wanna veto it, too. The things I’m not supposed to know… The life you nearly had… We’d miss you more than you’ll ever know. I hope you find a life raft. You’re drowning even though it doesn’t look like it. You’re clawing silently just under the surface, like you’re trynna climb an invisible ladder. Like you’re trynna climb an invisible ladder.

It’s hard to know (You won’t remember this.) what to say to you. (You’re somewhere else.) Deciphering tubes and wires, (Can you hear me?) the nebuliser vapour. (Open your eyes.) My heart is heavy. (My heart is heavy.) My heart overflows. (My heart overflows.) Hearts and lungs won’t last forever. Hearts and lungs won’t last forever. Today I can’t keep it together. Today I am falling apart. My heart is heavy. (My heart is heavy.) My heart overflows. (My heart overflows.) I still need to make you proud. I still need to make you proud. (My heart overflows.) The delirium... Cats in corridors by intensive care, that aren’t there. Hearts and lungs won’t last forever. Hearts and lungs won’t last forever. Hearts and lungs won’t last forever. Hearts and lungs won’t last forever.
