This new release by The Fearless Few doesn’t need too much explaining; ‘Rude Audio Remixed’ is an 8-track compilation of Rude Audio tracks, dexterously remixed by members of the collective.
For those who haven’t clocked their omnipresence on radio stations and dancefloors, Rude Audio is a London electronic act comprised of Mark Ratcliff, Owain Lloyd and Dave Brennan. Ratcliff has been a supporter and inspiration to The Fearless Few since his 2019 LP ‘Street Light Interference’, a melting pot of dub, acid house, techno, and Carpenter-esque synth scores that earned him praise from Andrew Weatherall. At the time, Ratcliffe set a challenge for the collective to remix tracks from the first half of the LP, then selected three of the resulting submissions to conclude its second half.
However, not wanting to leave any man behind, this compilation rounds up the remaining remixes for the Fearless Few Bandcamp archives.
Valtow opens the compilation with a shimmering, delirious Balearic remix of Rumble On Arab St that perfectly sets the tone for what follows, before collective founder MSOM’s remix of Pipeline Screaming opens with spooky reverb and what sound like toy chimes, before building into a slick, vibey, motorik synthscape. Then Oliver Si’s submission delivers a moody, epic slice of dub, with Rumble on Arab St’s atmospheric chants upfront and atop. Diffuze injects To The Half Moon with a foreboding malaise, before its 4/4 kick and crackles slowly crawl under your skin and worm into your ears. GREYFIELD WOODS then deconstructs the same track, departing into minimal, melancholy trip hop, its metronomic warped snares shouldering snippets of the original.
Next, Kitsch Kub’s nimble hiphop-leaning remix of Rumble On Arab St alternates between an irresistible, elated bass riff, and nostalgic, twinkling piano interludes. Zar’s remix of Pipeline Screaming is a pounding cocktail of techno and dub, with descending organ that recalls DJ Shadow’s Endtroducing, and a beat that sounds like it’s panting from a workout. Lastly, Hannes Wannerberger fittingly closes the release with a simmering sci-fi flavoured remix of Rumble On Arab St, contrasting brooding siren drones with blissful delayed synths.
This cohesive LP of remixes is a snapshot of some the collective’s most gifted members making pure fire, and forms a fitting tribute to the unstoppable force of nature that is Rude Audio.
